MUSCAT: Oman awarded 74 government contracts worth a combined RO 734.00 million during the first seven months of 2026, led by major healthcare and transport projects, while issuing a further 60 tenders valued at an estimated RO 365.00 million as it accelerated infrastructure spending under Oman Vision 2040.
The Public Authority for Projects, Tenders and Local Content said the awarded contracts and new tenders covered strategic sectors including healthcare, roads, flood protection and digital infrastructure aimed at improving public services and supporting long-term economic development.
The largest contract awarded during the period was for the supply of pharmaceuticals, vaccines and serums, worth more than RO 200.00 million, to strengthen medicine security and ensure the continuity of healthcare services.
Another major award was the RO 157.00 million expansion of the Muscat Expressway, a project intended to increase road capacity, improve traffic flow and accommodate the capital’s continuing urban and economic growth.
Other road projects awarded included Phase One of the Rub’ al Khali dual carriageway in Al Dhahirah Governorate for RO 8.30 million, completion of Package Three of the Al Batinah Expressway at RO 21.70 million and construction of the Ibra (Al Yahmadi-Al Qafisi) dual carriageway for RO 29.10 million.
Outside the transport sector, contracts were awarded for the RO 36.80 million Mahout fishing port in Al Wusta Governorate, the Sur Cultural and Youth Centre valued at more than RO 3.50 million and the Oman Genome Centre and Biobank in Muscat Governorate at RO 4.20 million.
The authority also awarded several framework agreements covering legal consultancy services worth RO 50.00 million, the supply of light vehicles, electric vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment to government entities, and the automation and governance of official travel bookings for public-sector employees.
During the same period, the authority floated 60 new tenders with an estimated value of RO 365.00 million.
A significant portion of the tenders focused on flood mitigation projects following recurring extreme weather events. These included flood protection systems for Al Duraiz in the Wilayat of Ibri, Samad Al Shan in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate and Sadah in Dhofar Governorate, together with flood protection dams at Wadi Al Rajma in Liwa, North Al Batinah Governorate, and Wadi Al Khoudh in Muscat Governorate.
Healthcare procurement also featured prominently, with tenders issued for laboratory chemicals, reagents, medical consumables and equipment for the 2027-2029 period, catering services for Ministry of Health hospitals and dialysis units, and the management, hosting and support of the ministry’s electronic health portal.
In the transport sector, new tenders covered the dualisation of the Al Kamil-Al Wafi-Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan-Jaalan Bani Bu Ali road, construction of the Jabal Al Abyad road in Ash Sharqiyah Governorate, the road linking Wakan village in Wadi Mistal, Wilayat of Nakhal, and a coastal road connecting Rakhyut and Dhalkut in Dhofar Governorate.
The authority said the projects form part of the government’s broader investment programme to improve transport connectivity, strengthen resilience against climate-related risks, enhance healthcare services and support economic growth across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
