MoL celebrates excellence, launches seasonal work platform

SALALAH: The Ministry of Labour (MoL) on Thursday organised a celebration of excellence and leadership to honour success partners, strategic partners, distinguished establishments and a number of pioneering figures in the field of labour and human resources development. The ministry also launched the Seasonal Work Platform on the sidelines of the third edition of the Labour Forum in Dhofar Governorate.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, in the presence of a number of Their Excellencies, officials, and representatives of government entities and the private sector.

During the ceremony, the Seasonal Work Platform was launched. It aims to regulate employment opportunities associated with seasons and events, and to connect job-seekers with available opportunities, thereby enhancing the flexibility of the labour market and providing innovative solutions that align with the needs of various economic sectors.

The platform contributes to facilitating access to seasonal employment opportunities, regulating the relationship between employers and job-seekers, and leveraging modern technologies in the development of employment services, in support of the Ministry of Labour’s approach towards enhancing the efficiency of labour market management.

The Seasonal Work Centre project falls within the regulatory initiatives aimed at developing the labour market system in the Sultanate of Oman, through the establishment of an integrated institutional framework for managing seasonal and event-related employment opportunities, and enhancing the utilisation of national capacities, particularly among youth, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The Centre regulates the relationship between employers and job-seekers in seasonal positions, provides an organised work environment that guarantees rights and obligations, supports economic sectors associated with seasons — especially tourism, events, and entertainment — and contributes to raising service quality and enhancing the Sultanate of Oman’s attractiveness as a tourist and economic destination.

The project also contributes to providing accurate data on opportunities and needs in the seasonal labour market, and offering training and qualification programmes that help youth acquire the required skills, thereby achieving balance between labour market needs and the empowerment of national competencies.

Meanwhile, success partners and strategic partners were honoured, in recognition of their contributions to supporting the Ministry of Labour’s efforts and enhancing cooperation and integration among various parties in implementing programmes and initiatives aimed at developing the labour market.

The ministry also honoured a number of trade unions in appreciation of their role in promoting social dialogue and consolidating balanced labour relations, alongside honouring distinguished establishments that have presented pioneering models in institutional performance and the application of best practices in management, development, and workplace improvement.

A number of pioneering figures were also honoured in recognition of their contributions to the development of the labour sector, human resources development, and the enhancement of labour market efficiency in the Sultanate of Oman. – ONA
