His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik met with the president of Botswana, Duma Gideon Boko, in Gaborone on Wednesday. The aim of this meeting was to establish strategic alliances in numerous economic fields. In the expanded session of talks, both heads of state discussed some common frameworks for investing that would help boost their economic exchanges. The discussion revolved around many economic sectors like renewable energy, mining, agriculture, food security, logistics, and capital investment. Both countries intended to utilize Oman’s geographic location and maritime advantages along with the natural resources of Botswana.
This high-level dialogue aligns with Oman’s broader foreign policy and Vision 2040 mandate, which prioritizes economic diversification, international investment partnerships, and clean energy transition. By enhancing strategic ties with emerging markets in Africa, the Sultanate continues to broaden its global economic footprint while bolstering national food and resource security initiatives.
The top-level summit was attended by a high-ranking Omani delegation, including HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu’amani, Minister of the Royal Office; and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister. Prominent economic leaders, such as Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, and Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, were also present.
On the host side, President Boko was accompanied by Vice President and Minister of Finance Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, together with senior cabinet ministers overseeing international relations, minerals, trade, and transportation infrastructure. Following the formal bilateral negotiations, His Majesty signed the guest book at the presidential headquarters, and both leaders exchanged commemorative gifts to symbolize the enduring friendship and economic synergy between the two countries.
