A standardized tariff framework for public charging stations of electric vehicles (EVs) is planned to be initiated by Oman on 1st October 2026. This announcement has been made by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) in consultation with the authority for Public Services Regulation and the Oman Net Zero Centre. A structured tariff framework has been developed where pricing will be done on the basis of charging capacity of the equipment into three different categories. Equipment that operates on 90 kW or lower would have an initial price of 50 baisa per kilowatt-hour, while mid-range equipment that operates between 91 kW and 180 kW will be charged higher tariffs. Ultra-fast chargers that operate on 181 kW or above will attract the highest tariff range. Total billing across all categories will remain directly proportional to energy consumption during each charging session.

The regulatory roll-out forms part of a broader strategy to support private sector investments in decarbonized transport while maintaining equitable costs for EV motorists. Alongside the price tiers, the ministry has established operational criteria for service providers, covering grid installation guidelines, safety compliance, and network maintenance standards.
To streamline access across the expanding infrastructure network, the ministry recently unveiled “Shahin,” a unified digital application allowing drivers to locate operational points, check dynamic availability, and execute payments centrally.
Oman currently operates roughly 160 public and private charging outlets, with official plans aiming to scale total infrastructure capacity to at least 350 public locations by 2027. The standardized rates accompany major green mobility deals signed during the Gulf Green Mobility Forum, aligning transport initiatives with national goals to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Standardized tariffs and digital integration mark a major step in Oman’s green mobility transition, encouraging private investment while giving electric vehicle owners transparent pricing as the nation moves toward sustainable road transport. Oman Daily Report
