The preparatory stages of the Readiness Assessment of the National Aviation Strategy 2040 gathered government representatives, airport operators, and foreign investors, as well as local companies at the headquarters of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The focus was made on making such air hubs situated in Muscat, Salalah, and Sohar become economic centers through integrating their logistics, zoning, and free zone networks. The national strategy comprises 39 separate projects that should be carried out in three implementation stages, aiming at bringing around 11.7 billion Omani Rials of the private capital invested until 2040.

According to CAA Chairman Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, international air connections play an indispensable role in promoting regional trade and expanding the country’s economic portfolio. Crucial operational agreements were formally finalized during the forum to accelerate long-term infrastructure improvements and technical services. Under a newly signed 35-year concession contract, Oman Airports Company will handle operations, management, and expansion programs across Muscat, Salalah, and Sohar airports to elevate service delivery standards and promote local workforce participation.
Simultaneously, the CAA established a 20-year concession partnership with Indonesian aerospace maintenance firm GMF AeroAsia. This arrangement tasks the international service provider with managing heavy maintenance facilities and technical inspection operations at Muscat International Airport, transforming the site into a primary regional hub for aircraft servicing. Supplementary agreements were reached between Oman Aviation Academy and the Arab Aviation Academy to strengthen pilot training, alongside a collaborative memorandum between GMF AeroAsia and Mac Aerospace International targeting technical skill development.
Industry experts participating in panel sessions focused on simplifying the investor pathway from initial exploration to active operations, building sustainable capital partnerships, and cultivating specialized local talent capable of supporting next-generation aviation demands across the Sultanate.
