Making a formal visit to Oman on Monday, the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, was greeted by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The meeting happened in Al Hosn Palace and was an indication of the desire of the two countries to have greater cooperation and collaboration.
This reception underscored the effort Oman has put forth to forge a diplomatic connection in East Africa. His Majesty wished the African president and his entourage all success during their stay in the Sultanate as part of the formal greeting ceremony at the Dhofar Governorate.
A grand military reception was accorded upon the arrival of the Rwandan presidential convoy at the palace premises. Mounted units from the Royal Cavalry formed an honor guard, while traditional artillery units delivered a 21-gun salute.
The ceremonial festivities concluded on the dais with the performance of Rwanda’s national anthem, after which both leaders greeted senior officials, military commanders, and members of the respective diplomatic corps.
Following the ceremonial honors, high-level discussions focused on establishing direct channels for bilateral investment, specifically identifying potential partnerships in logistics, renewable energy, and digital transformation initiatives. The delegation dialogue further highlights both governments’ shared commitment to expanding inter-regional maritime networks and promoting joint private-sector ventures.
President Kagame’s delegation reflects a strong emphasis on economic cooperation, trade expansion, and agricultural exchange. Accompanying the President are several cabinet ministers, including Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, Finance and Economic Planning Minister Yusuf Murangwa, and Trade and Industry Minister Antoine Kajangwe.
The delegation also features Solange Uwituze, Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Juliana Muganza, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board, and Dan Munyuza, Non-Resident Ambassador to Oman.
The summit highlights Muscat’s broader strategy under Oman Vision 2040 to cultivate robust trade corridors with emerging African markets, leveraging Oman’s strategic ports and logistics infrastructure. Oman Daily Report
