Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)has put out a weather warning for many parts of the country on Tuesday. The Authority said that we should expect thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains in areas today.
The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center is watching the weather closely in the mountains, the desert and near the coast.
This weather warning is for August 25. It says that moderate thunderstorms will start in the Al Hajar Mountains and nearby places around noon.
At that time heavy rain will fall in the Al Hajar Mountains and strong winds will come right after the rain. Also the weather warning says that strong rain will start in the desert parts of Al Wusta and Dhofar, at 6 pm.
Coastal and southern wilayats face their own set of weather risks. Moderate winds are forecast to sweep through Al Jazir, Duqm, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shaleem, Al Hallaniyat, Mahout and Masirah Island from 8 am, giving residents in these low-lying and coastal communities the earliest warning window of the day.
Further south, limited-intensity thunderstorms are expected in Al Mazyunah, Thumrait, Maqshin and Haima from 6 pm, while lighter rainfall is forecast across Dhofar’s coastal belt, including Rakhyut, Salalah, Dhalkut, Taqah and Mirbat, beginning at noon.
The warning comes as authorities continue to monitor unsettled weather patterns affecting multiple regions of the Sultanate this month.
Residents, particularly those in mountainous and low-lying wadi areas, are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel through areas prone to flash flooding, and monitor official channels for updates throughout the day.
The CAA has advised the public to track real-time alerts and interactive weather maps through its official website and the Oman Meteorology mobile application, which provides live updates as conditions evolve across the country’s diverse terrain.
