Thirty-five young Omanis have finished a two-month training program that was created to develop knowledge in electric vehicle technology. The country is moving forward with their plans to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Youth Centre worked together with Shell Oman Marketing Company. They celebrated the end of the edition of the “Electric Vehicle Experts” program, called EV-Pro during a ceremony on Wednesday in Muscat.
The program took place from July 19 to August 27. People from universities and colleges, over the country joined the program.
During the program the participants learned about all parts of electric vehicle technology. They studied charging systems and how to plan networks. They also learned about the simulation, vehicle repair and how to use vehicles every day.
The curriculum also covered the economic case for EV adoption and examined how the shift away from combustion engines can help cut greenhouse gas emissions, a theme that has taken on growing importance as Gulf economies look to diversify beyond fossil fuels.
Beyond the technical training, organisers built in a strong sustainability component, walking participants through the environmental challenges facing the region and the broader principles behind the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Hands-on workshops let trainees measure environmental impact directly, while interactive sessions pushed them to design sustainable solutions tailored to conditions in Oman rather than generic models imported from elsewhere.
Organisers positioned the programme as a direct contribution to Oman’s national climate roadmap, which commits the country to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by the middle of the century.
By equipping young Omanis with specialised skills in an industry still in its early stages regionally, the initiative aims to build a homegrown talent pool capable of supporting the country’s clean transport ambitions as electric vehicle adoption expands across the Gulf in the coming years.
This is the third time the programme has been run, reflecting a continuing partnership between the Youth Centre and Shell Oman aimed at channelling private-sector expertise into youth development and national sustainability goals.
