Sayyida Ahd Abdullah Hamed Al Busaidi, wife of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, paid a visit to the Omani Women’s Association in Salalah on Wednesday, highlighting the role played by women’s associations in the process of social development in Dhofar Governorate.
The visit was attended by high-ranking officials such as the Dhofar Governor Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Minister of Social Development Dr Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, and Noor Hassan Al Ghassani, head of the Salalah branch of the association, alongside chairpersons of women’s associations from all over the governorate.
Visiting the venue, Sayyida Ahd took a tour in the Heritage House, which had an exhibition of handmade artifacts showcasing the ongoing efforts of preserving their heritage and turning it into means of generating revenue for the women participating.
The organizers of the event pointed out that it is just one of the examples of the ongoing efforts to transform traditional skills into culturally and commercially valuable products.
She also toured an exhibition hall where representatives from women’s associations across the governorate showcased community projects, voluntary initiatives and programmes led by local women.
Association leaders used the opportunity to walk Her Highness through their work, pointing to efforts built around social responsibility, community involvement and grassroots innovation.
Before concluding her visit, Sayyida Ahd signed the association’s guest book, recording her appreciation for the range of programmes on display and commending the associations for balancing heritage preservation with practical support for women and their communities.
The visit forms part of a broader pattern of royal engagement with Oman’s network of women’s associations, which operate in governorates across the Sultanate and serve as a platform for training, cultural preservation and community outreach led by Omani women.
