Oman’s Environment Authority (EA) has taken 2,427 vehicles out of protected spaces in Dhofar Governorate. This is part of a campaign to keep the region’s natural environment safe during the Khareef season. The Khareef season brings a lot of visitors to tourist spots.

The authority explained that the action was done to stop damage. Vehicles that go into areas with plants can hurt the environment. They can damage the plants, make the soil tight and stop plants from growing. The campaign is one part of continuing work to protect the places in Dhofar. It also wants to encourage behavior, from tourists during the time when many people visit the country.

According to the EA, inspection teams have stepped up field monitoring across parks, valleys and other environmentally sensitive sites to ensure compliance with regulations governing access to protected areas. Visitors have been urged to park only in designated locations and avoid driving over grass-covered terrain or entering restricted zones established to protect native vegetation.

Officials stressed that preserving Dhofar’s natural beauty requires the cooperation of residents and tourists alike. The governorate’s lush landscapes, seasonal waterfalls and mist-covered mountains attract thousands of visitors every year during the Khareef season, increasing pressure on environmentally sensitive locations. Authorities said restricting vehicle access to green areas is essential to maintaining biodiversity and ensuring these natural attractions remain protected for future generations.

The Environment Authority added that awareness campaigns are continuing alongside enforcement measures to educate the public about the environmental impact of irresponsible driving in protected areas. Information boards, field inspections and guidance from environmental officers are being used to encourage sustainable visitor behaviour and reduce damage to natural habitats.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to balancing tourism development with environmental conservation, noting that preserving Dhofar’s ecosystems is a national priority. Officials called on all visitors to respect environmental regulations, use designated parking facilities and support conservation efforts by helping protect the governorate’s distinctive natural heritage.

The campaign reflects Oman’s broader strategy of promoting sustainable tourism while ensuring that increased visitor activity does not compromise the ecological value of the Sultanate’s most treasured natural destinations.
