A terrible thing happened in the Sultanate. A known pilot from Oman, Captain Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Kalbani and his sister died. They were paragliding in the Dhofar Governorate and where they fell from the air because of some issues.

The accident happened in Salalah, a city on the coast in the south. The brother and sister were in the air with a paraglider when they fell down.

People who help in emergencies and security personnel from the area went to the site. They gave Captain Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Kalbani and his sister medical help as soon as possible.

Then they took them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately Captain Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Kalbani and his sister died at the hospital. The doctors tried to save them but they could not.

The Oman Air Sports Committee (OASC) officially announced the tragic loss of Captain Al Kalbani and his sister on Wednesday, expressing immense sorrow over the sudden passing of one of the nation’s seasoned sports aviators.

In an official statement, the governing body extended its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, offering prayers for solace and endurance during this time of profound grief.

Captain Al Kalbani was a highly respected figure in Oman’s aerial sports community. Notably, he clinched a silver medal for the Sultanate at the 3rd GCC Beach Games in Muscat, securing second place in the individual paragliding event and contributing significantly to Oman’s national gold medal finish in the team standings.

The fatal fall took place during Dhofar’s bustling monsoon Khareef season, a time when aerial recreation and outdoor adventure activities experience peak interest from local visitors and regional tourists across the governorate’s scenic mountain and coastal terrain.

Competent authorities have formally initiated an exhaustive technical investigation to establish the root cause of the crash.

Investigators are focusing on equipment integrity, weather condition logs, flight gear functionality, and environmental factors at the time of ascent to clarify whether mechanical malfunction or sudden atmospheric shifts precipitated the plunge.
