Oman’s national e-sports team have qualified for the FIFAe World Cup 2026 in Rocket League, after a successful run at the continental competition in Kuala Lumpur that saw them finish third in Asia before a decisive victory in the playoffs to finish third overall.
The Omani trio of Sultan Al Balushi, Nooh Al Mahmoudi and Abdullah Al Amri, coached by Dutch trainer Overmeer, took part in the FIFAe Continental Cup 2026 – Asia from August 21 to 23, finishing third in Asia before a decisive victory in the playoffs to finish third overall.
They had previously qualified for the competition by finishing third in the West Asian qualifiers of the FIFAe Nations Cup, which saw three rounds of qualifiers needed before the Omani team picked up enough points to finish inside the top nations in the region.

In Malaysia, the team cruised through the group stage before beating India 4-0 in the quarter-finals. A semi-final loss to Australia by the same scoreline pushed them into the third-place playoff, where Oman bounced back with a commanding 4-0 win over host nation Malaysia to claim bronze.
That bronze-medal finish opened the door to a final qualification playoff against New Zealand, which Oman won 4-2 to confirm its ticket to this year’s global finals.
The result adds to a growing list of achievements for Oman’s competitive gaming scene, which has increasingly used continental and regional qualifiers as a springboard onto the world stage.
Rocket League, a fast-paced hybrid of football and vehicular combat, has become one of the most closely followed titles on the FIFAe circuit, drawing national federations worldwide into organised competition once dominated by informal online play.
With the World Cup berth secured, Oman’s squad now joins a select group of Asian nations advancing to the global tournament later this year, marking one of the country’s most notable results yet in international e-sports competition.
