Qatar Backs Oman’s Iran Diplomacy in Call Between Foreign Ministers

Qatar has given its weight behind Oman. Qatar supports Oman’s effort to talk with Iran. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al‑Thani spoke with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Wednesday.

The conversation focused on making the two countries work better together and on reviewing what is happening in the region.

Qatar was very interested in the progress of talks between Oman and Iran about the phased plan to calm the things down around the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important places in the world for oil and gas.

Qatar said that the new plan will have a shared path for ships in the Strait and a joint effort to clear the waterway of mines. Qatar is happy to help and wants the Strait of Hormuz to stay safe and open.

Sheikh Mohammed conveyed Doha’s appreciation for Muscat’s role in the process, describing Oman’s diplomatic efforts as vital to preventing further escalation and preserving stability across the wider Gulf region.

He affirmed that Qatar stands fully behind the Sultanate’s approach, which has long relied on quiet, behind-the-scenes engagement rather than public pressure to resolve disputes.

The call adds to a string of recent diplomatic exchanges involving Gulf states as concerns mount over the security of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which a significant share of the world’s seaborne oil and LNG cargoes pass daily.

Any disruption to traffic through the Strait carries direct consequences for global energy markets, making Oman’s mediating role between Tehran and the international community closely watched by governments and industry alike.

Oman has positioned itself for years as a trusted intermediary in regional disputes, leveraging its neutral standing to keep communication channels open where other countries have struggled to engage directly.

Wednesday’s call signals that this approach continues to draw backing from fellow Gulf Cooperation Council members even as tensions in the wider region remain unresolved.
