A citizen of Oman has been detained after a gunfight in Ibra Wilayat that killed one individual and injured two others, the Royal Oman Police has reported.
The North Al Sharqiyah Governorate Police Command has reported the detention, revealing that the arrested person shot at three civilians in the Al Haima region of Ibra.
Out of the three civilians, one died from his injuries, while the other two individuals suffered serious injuries, the police stated.
It appears that the shooting was not an act of luck, according to the police. The preliminary investigation reveals that the motive for the shooting could be a previous fight between the suspect and the victims; however, details about the fight and the date and time of the shooting are not yet known.
The Royal Oman Police said legal procedures against the suspect are now underway, without specifying the charges he is expected to face or when the case might reach court.
No further information has been released on the identities or conditions of the victims, and it remains unclear whether the deceased has been named or whether the two injured citizens have been discharged from hospital.
Ibra, one of the main towns in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, lies roughly 150 kilometres southeast of Muscat and serves as an administrative and commercial hub for the wider wilayat.
Violent crime of this nature remains relatively rare in the region, and cases involving firearms typically draw swift police response given Oman’s strict controls on weapon possession.
