Oman’s Sultanate has initiated a visionary program designed to fast-track the move towards high-end manufacturing and technology-related exports. The meeting was headed by Dr. Nasser Rashid Al Maawali, who is the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy. The committee consisted of significant representatives of various government agencies who formulated annual and operational strategies for increasing the nation’s productive base based on knowledge and supporting long-term economic diversification goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
The task force focused on several core pillars, including boosting non-oil exports embedded with advanced technological content, enhancing product competitiveness in regional and international markets, and expanding local manufacturing capabilities into more complex goods. Officials underscored that raising the level of industrial sophistication will allow Omani exports to command higher added value abroad.

To ensure efficient execution, the committee emphasized seamless cross-governmental coordination and standardized tracking of economic indicators. The strategy also includes proactive engagement with international ranking bodies to review assessment methodologies, guarantee data accuracy, and strengthen the Sultanate’s global competitive profile.
In recent years, national economic policies have prioritized reducing reliance on traditional raw materials by building up local human capital, encouraging domestic innovation, and attracting targeted foreign direct investment into advanced industrial sectors. By integrating research institutions, private enterprise, and public regulatory bodies, the Sultanate aims to establish high-growth economic clusters that foster technical knowledge transfer, create specialized employment opportunities for national talent, and sustainably protect the domestic economy from future global market fluctuations.
The Economic Complexity Index measures the collective knowledge and skills embedded within a country’s export profile. By transitioning from basic commodities to technologically sophisticated products, Oman aims to fortify its productive ecosystem, drive sustainable economic growth, and secure an elevated standing in global trade reports.
