Commercial outlets across Muscat Governorate have been targeted in a rigorous oversight drive led by the Sultanate of Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA).
The initiative resulted in the immediate confiscation of 1,236 school supplies and related merchandise that were found to violate national standards regarding appropriate imagery and symbols.
The regulatory enforcement forms a part of a broader, proactive market surveillance strategy which is designed to safeguard public decency, to protect young consumers, and also to maintain strict adherence to local commercial standards ahead of and during the academic term.
Inspectors uncovered the numerous retail items that bear graphic representations—specifically skull motifs—that directly breach established regulatory frameworks governing consumer goods aimed at children.
A breakdown of the confiscated merchandise highlights a heavy concentration of everyday classroom essentials. Field teams confiscated 463 school backpacks, 166 student notebooks, 158 decorative stickers, 130 rulers, and 109 writing pencils.
In addition to these primary items, an assortment of secondary educational supplies displaying similar non-compliant imagery was removed from store shelves across the capital governorate.
Following the physical seizure of the materials, official representatives confirmed that formal legal measures have been initiated against the non-compliant commercial entities.
All confiscated goods have been taken into official custody pending final administrative and legal disposition in strict compliance with the Consumer Protection Law.
The authority reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining intensive market monitoring across commercial centers in Oman.
Market inspectors continue to track commercial compliance to prevent illegal or culturally inappropriate merchandise from reaching local consumers.
